In His Word
"Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path." – Psalm 119:105

Psalm 131:1 – “My heart is not proud”

1 O LORD, my heart is not proud, nor my eyes haughty; neither do I concern myself with great matters, nor with things too profound for me.

Can you honestly – and humbly, of course – say that your heart is not proud?  Are you content with fulfilling your lowly position – and doing the best you can at it – or are you constantly eyeing that higher position because with it comes more honor, power, prestige, money, recognition, etc?  What you may not fully understand is how much more responsibility also comes with it – more than you are truly able to handle or need to take upon yourself.  Jesus taught to take the lowly seat and be content with it, because the higher seat may be for someone else (Luke 14:7-11).  If a time comes for you to be moved higher, then it will be done.  You don’t need to concern yourself with it.  Trust God to know where you belong and see to it that you are there.

Have a great day in His word!

  1. If I may comment on my own post, sometimes I struggle with this as a preacher. I see a “big-name” preacher at a “big-name” church and think, “Would it be nice to be like _____ and work with a church like _____.” It’s pride getting the best of me. The other preacher may be better suited for the work there, while I may be better suited for the work here. I need to keep my focus on the Lord and preaching His word and let Him take care of the rest. To Him be the glory, not me.
