Job 2 – “with no one speaking a word”

 2Tue - poetry

“ Now when Job’s three friends heard of all this adversity that had come upon him,… they made an appointment together to come to sympathize with him and comfort him.” (Job 1:11).  Have you found yourself in a similar situation, sympathizing with a friend going through adversity and wanting to comfort him/her?  What do you say in times like this?  Learn a lesson from Job’s friends: “Then they sat down on the ground with him for seven days and seven nights with no one speaking a word to him, for they saw that his pain was very great.” (:13).  Sometimes the best thing you can do for someone who is suffering is to simply be there and share with them in their grief.  It’s OK if you don’t know what to say, for often no words are needed.  In fact, it was when Job’s friends began to speak that they ceased to accomplish what they came to do (“comfort him”).  Paul shared great wisdom when he said to simply “weep with those who weep” (Romans 12:15).

Have a great day in His word!
