Job 5:17 – “Blessed is the man whom God corrects;…”

 2Tue - poetry

Job’s friend Eliphaz said, “Blessed is the man whom God corrects;…”  (Job 5:17a).  Why should we consider God’s correction a blessing?  The writer of Hebrews gives us several answers:

– It demonstrates His love.  “For the Lord disciplines the one He loves, and chastises every son whom He receives.” (12:6).
– It makes us better.  “…He disciplines us for our good, so that we may share His holiness.” (:10b).
– It is only temporary.  “ All discipline for the moment seems not to be joyful, but sorrowful; yet to those who have been trained by it, afterwards it yields the peaceful fruit of righteousness.” (:11).

“…so do not despise the discipline of the Almighty.” (Job 5:17b).

Have a great day in His word!
