Joel – “the day of the Lord”

 3Wed - prophets

The three-chapter book of Joel contains the phrase “day of the Lord” more than any other book (five times).  One of the six times the phrase appears in the New Testament (Acts 2:20) is a quote from Joel 2:31.  So is it a day to look forward to or fear?  It depends on one’s faithfulness.

In the first part of the book it refers to the Lord’s judgment against His unfaithful people, a day of their destruction (1:15; 2:1, 11).  Later in the book, when they have repented, the phrase refers to His judgment against their enemies, a day of their deliverance (2:31-32; 3:14).

What does “the day of the Lord” mean for you?  Peter said that, while it will be a day of destruction, those who live holy and godly lives can look for and hasten the day and be saved (2 Peter 3:10-14).

Have a great day in His word!
