Prov – “wine is a mocker”

2Tue - poetry2

Do you want to be wise?  Then stay away from alcoholic beverages.  That’s the message from the book of wisdom.  “Wine is a mocker and beer a brawler; whoever is led astray by them is not wise.” (Proverbs 20:1).  Would you like to prevent unnecessary woe, sorrow, contentions, complaining, wounds without cause, and redness of eyes?  Then don’t “linger over wine” (23:29-30).  People who drink often “see strange things and… utter perverse things” (23:33).  Drinking alcohol may seem enjoyable at the moment, but “at the last it bites like a serpent and stings like a viper” (23:32).  Avoid the bite by abstaining from the bottle, and escape the sting by skipping the swig.  If someone says that drinking makes you a man, remember that not drinking makes you a wise man – and it just may save your life and others.

Don’t be mocked, be wise.

Have a great day in His word!
